Geodienst
This demo was created by Geodienst to visualize travel times from hospitals to postal code areas in the EU Region that Groningen is part of as well.
How to use
Click on a hospital to see the travel times to the postal code areas. To see the travel time, click on the desired postal code area.
Limitations
As this map is created for demo purposes, there are some limitations to the data and the calculations. We use clipping to the nearest node, so the postcodes on Wadden Islands clip to the mainland road network, making the information incorect. The road network only includes highways and primary roads, so postcodes nearby to a hospital might show travel times being less than actual.
Implementation
The calculations are done by calculating the distance on a road network, using the theoretical maximum speeds from the hospital to the center of a postal code. The road network data was acquired from OpenStreetMap and calculations were done by using pgRouting in a PostgreSQL database.
